At the doors of the National Park of Vanoise, the
territory of Orelle is into a large part wild and many
are the floristic and faunistic species which you will
have the possibility to observe. This diversity is due,
of course to altitude, but also to the orientation compared
to the sun and the type of ground or rock.
To protect the ecosystems present around the Thabor's
Mount, a natural reserve was created in order
to preserve the remarkable natural heritance by an adapted
regulation also taking account of the local context.
The flora and the fauna which you will be able to observe
are very varied: in the winter, the fauna presents some
particular adaptations to these difficult conditions,
where life is possible only with defences' means against
cold, snow and lack of food.
Some animals protect themselves from the cold thanks
to a coat or a provided plumage, others as the marmots
hibernate underground, solving at the same time their
problem of food.

Favourite preys of the fox and the raptors, the variable
hare, the partridge of snows and the grouse, hide by
changing its colour according to seasons. In the winter
the big herbivores, mouflons, ibexes and chamois, climb
down in the forest to seek shelter and food.
From the end of May, the snowy coat melts and
the first buds push creating so a rainbow of colours.
It is at this time that the gentians, the lilies, the
edelweiss and the other flowers of the Alps appear.
To admire the landscapes and to discover by yourself
the various stagings of the flora and fauna, we invite
you to walk you on the various signposted footpaths
of the commune and in the National Park of Vanoise,
far ten kilometres from Orelle.
